Charges against an Evington man who was arrested for allegedly trying to lure a 13-year-old girl away from a bus stop last week have been dropped.
Donald Dove, who is a convicted sex offender, was released from jail around 10 a.m. Thursday morning. Bedford County Commonwealth's Attorney Randy Krantz filed a motion to dismiss charges against Dove.
Bedford County Major Ricky Gardner says that the witnesses' identification of Dove was incorrect.
Gardner tells WDBJ7 that they got calls about a man matching Dove's description who was approaching children at a bus stop. However, Dove was in jail when these calls were taken.
A deputy was sent to the scene Thursday morning to talk to the suspect, and the suspect admitted that he was the one who approached a girl at the bus stop.
The suspect was not charged because he is not a sex offender.
