A man was killed Saturday morning when he was accidentally run over in a church parking lot in Huddleston.
Paul Mitchell of Lynch Station was killed while trimming bushes in the parking lot of Mentow Baptist Church in Bedford County.
Police say Henry Woodford was driving a pickup truck when his foot accidentally got caught on the accelerator and hit Mitchell.
Mitchell was 76.
The driver of the truck will not be charged.
When you get behind the wheel of a vehicle, it is paramount you are in control. Other people's safety is in your hands. When you cannot drive, because of alcohol, drugs or mental defect, you should not be behind the wheel. It is your responsibility. If you refuse to accept your limitations or deny the truth, it is the state's right & duty to stop you from hurting others. Sometimes the family is not willing to make trouble or hurt one's feelings, but this does not excuse their duty. This is common sense & reasonable. Stop making excuses like some defense attorney.
It is perfectly right & just that we can 'judge' a person to be 'competent' to drive. We are not to 'judge' ourselves as being better than another, because we have fallen short. We are judging a person's actions, not their worth. The Bible gives us numerous people's lives & we are told (by God), who acted wisely & who acted foolishly. We are told for a reason. So that we may have a guide as to how we should live & act.
This man has a terrible burden for the rest of his days. I hope he is wise & has support.
@tamilita2008: I have no problem with being 65 or a 165. I am not condeming this man because of race, religion,gender or age. My original comment was the failure of the authorities to issue a charge so an investigation could go forth. If you are stopped for speeding they give you a ticket. That doesn't prove that you are guilty of anything. It is merely a way to start the legal process. How you can run over someone and kill them and not be charged with something is beyond me. That in no way reflects my opinion of the person driving, regardless of his age, race,religion or gender. It has nothing to do with how much he/she is liked or disliked in the community or his standing with his church or God. It does cause me to have serious doubts about the mindset of Law Enforcement in this particular jurisdiction.

Good Lord is exactly right! That was an example. But, wait until you turn 65 and see if everything you do is the same as other people your age now. Did you not fully read my comments? I said I could have done the very same thing when I ran into the porch railings...it was an ACCIDENT!!!! If someone would have been standing there the very same thing could of have happened.
I wonder if you thought maybe God was ready to call the man that was killed home and what more perfect place to go then at church whether it be inside or out!!!
