Thirty women will compete for the Miss Virginia title this year.
The week long event begins this coming Sunday as the girls arrive at the Hotel Roanoke.
But preparations started much earlier.
News7 caught up with two of the ladies at a Vinton salon for a hair appointment.
Emily Hall and Ashley Faucher are sponsored by the salon and Stylist Erin Kirby-Tice.
This is Ashley's second try for the title of Miss Virginia.
20 year old Emily Hall is giving it a shot for a third time.
"The crown opens up doors that ultimately wouldn't be opened up for any normal 23 year old girl," said Faucher.
"It really does empower women and it helps you because I was such a shy teenager," said Hall.
Community service is important in the Miss Virginia pageant.
Ashley's platform is regional hunger.
Emily's focus is literacy and youth.
The Miss Virginia pageant will be held nest Saturday at the Roanoke Civic Center.
