The Miss Virginia pageant doesn't kick off until Thursday at the Roanoke Civic Center, but the ladies are already busy.

The contestants had a couple photo shoots Monday at the Hotel Roanoke to get ready for this weekend.  But it's not all about the glitz and the glam this week.

Organizers say since Miss Virginia is a scholarship program, the ladies will be reading up on current events this week and preparing for both the talent and interview portions of the competition.

But participants say even though it's been a stressful road, this week is all about having a good time.

"I'm excited! I've prepared since January and everything's in order, ready to go now, on paper, and now it's just time to have fun," said Ashley Strickland.

The winner of the pageant will be announced on Saturday night, and organizers say there are some tickets still available.
