Many people are shopping online to finish their Christmas lists. That means a lot of packages.
FedEx says Monday is its biggest shipping day of the year processing about 19 million packages.
That kept workers at the Salem Warehouse very busy.
The night began with trucks pulling into the warehouse. All are quickly unloaded.
"A lot of packages ranging from anything less than a 100 pounds, 150 pounds to 2 pound boxes," says manager Chris Bryant.
The boxes then go for a ride on a conveyor belt to a tower where employees sort the packages by zipcode.
Once the packages are sorted, it goes down another conveyor belt and lands at a truck.
"You just gotta keep going at a steady pace and try not to worry about the jam of boxes behind you," says employee Heath Wilson.
FedEx says its volume is up 10% this year because of the increase in online sales.
Workers here in Salem are making sure Christmas gifts are delivered as soon as possible.
"We're Santa's helpers without a shadow of a doubt," says Bryant, "Behind the scenes people don't see us but every year we come through no matter what."
They're stocking up "santa's sleigh" for the big day which is less than two weeks away.
