There's no sign of a convicted killer two days after his escape from a prison farm in rural North Carolina.
A Halifax County Sheriff's Department dispatcher said early Tuesday officers were still searching for 51-year-old James J. Ladd.
Ladd was first discovered missing Sunday morning, after the tractor he had been operating was found abandoned in a field outside the minimum security Tillery Correctional Center.
Ladd was serving three life sentences for the 1980 robbery and shooting deaths of two men.
Public Safety Department spokeswoman Pamela Walker says it's unclear how long Ladd had been missing. Walker says the prison staff first noticed the abandoned tractor around 10 a.m. Sunday.
A public statement about the missing inmate was not issued for more than five hours.
