Belt tightening is forcing some local non-profits to get creative.

For 21 years, the Conflict Resolution Center has been serving the Roanoke Valley helping to solve problems.

But, like a lot of organizations, state funding has been cut over the years.

The executive director says about 10 percent, or $15,000 has been slashed

"We actually help people find reasonable and affordable solutions to conflicts they may be facing perhaps landlord/tenant, perhaps domestic issues," said Toni Freeman, Conflict Resolution Center Board.
"We deal with children in school and their bullying issues, so we have programs like that. And, there's another program called restorative justice so we  do a lot for the community that people aren't aware of."

To help make up that deficit, the group is having a fundraiser Friday night at the Vinton War Memorial.

It's called, "The Chocolate Affair."

They're will be music, prizes and of course, chocolate.
