While many of you try to avoid the last minute shopping crowd, some are diving in for other reasons.

Most shoppers News7 talked to on Christmas Eve admit they're procrastinators at heart and some are just on the hunt for big sales.

If you're scrambling the day before Christmas to buy gifts, like Junior Word, you may be considered a last minute shopper. "I actually like coming out last minute because I always get better deals," said Word.

But not everyone at the mall on Christmas Eve is there to shop.

Alice Daugherty lives in a retirement home. She and a few friends come to the mall every Saturday but not for gifts; she says she’s shopping for friendship. "I don't have too much family here. My family's almost all gone so these people are my family," explained Daugherty.

In between the crowds, conversations and shopping some even manage to squeeze in some "me" time. Chris Denton, a hairstylist at the mall, says people are trying to get beautiful before they see their family. "They'll come in at the very last minute and just beg for haircut," said Denton.
