Overwhelming response to Home and Away Food Drive

The Home and Away Food Drive for the victims of Hurricane Sandy was held Friday and Saturday at the Tanglewood Kroger in Roanoke County.

WDBJ7 joined forces with Kroger and Feeding America Southwest Virginia.   As of Saturday at 4 p.m., two full trailers and part of a third was filled with food and water.

We also received $900 in donations.

As Meteorologist Brent Watts explains, the response has been overwhelming. "We've been seeing the same people come by day after day that have dropped off not one or two or three bags of things, but sometimes truck loads of goods. We've been very fortunate and the folks in New England will appreciate it."

For every three canned foods donated, one stays at our local food bank. The other two go to areas hard-hit by Sandy.
