The Lodge at the Peaks Of Otter is a major tourist attraction, but it's the final weekend they're taking guests. The National Park service owns the lodge, which is managed by "Peaks of Otter of Virginia". The last contract expired 2 years ago but several extensions have been granted. This time, the company said "NO" on a new ten year contract
"It's kind of a step back in time. A lot of people complain about not having internet connection and TV's in the room but it forces you out into nature and to enjoy the beautiful part of the country that this is," said tourist Katie Stetson.
The new company will incur costs in the millions--including costly repairs. But many are keeping their fingers crossed--hoping a new company will step in and operate the lodge. The final guests will check in tomorrow and check out by 11 Monday morning.
