Celebrating Pioneer Day in Salem

Celebrating hope and heritage while having a little fun. That was the motivation behind an event today in Salem called Pioneer Day.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts the event to inform and honor those who came before them.

Many of their forefathers helped settle the American West as they tried to escape religious persecution.

Co-coordinator Kay Hambrick says, "Actually Pioneer Day is July 24th, but we're having it on the 28th. We celebrate the arrival of the pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847."

There were activities for the kids and a chance for people to see what pioneer life was all about with demonstrations.
