The gloomy weather isn't the white holiday many of us dreamed of, but it's a welcome sight for farmers in Pittsylvania County.
Two weeks ago we told you about the drought concerns of Donnie Moore.
He raises chickens, cattle, and grows tobacco.
Before Monday, his farm was dry and he was making special arrangements for feed and fertilizer.
Though one day of rain will keep things wet and nourished for next growing season, he says it will take days of rain and several more inches before the water table is close to normal.
“And that's what we need. We don't need four inches. We need four inches over the next three weeks, over a couple day period, and let it soak in and the type of rain fall we're getting this morning. You cannot put a value on it,” Moore said.
The latest measurements from the National Weather Service found Danville and Pittsylvania County are down 15 inches of rain since last year.
