Our hometowns want you to be prepared if storms threaten flooding or potential damage to homes.
Severe weather is something meteorologists are always watching and a warning system couldn't arrive at a better time.
Pittsylvania County is introducing an Emergency Alert Notification.
It's similar to what your hometown station provides but it focused on community in their region.
The system sends text alerts, phone calls and emails when a storm could produce flooding and gives advanced warnings for people to take shelter.
"Sometimes it's just minutes notice before an actual event could occur such as a tornado or flash flood because of the terrain in our area. This tool is going to hopefully provide a quick emergency notification," said James Davis, the Emergency Service Coordinator for Pittsylvania County.
Calls will only be made if weather conditions are hazardous.
People in Pittsylvania County can only sign up online.
