Update 10:30 a.m.

Appalachian Power tells WDBJ7 the power outage was caused by high winds.

Around 7 a.m., the wind blew a conductor into a street light which burned a wire causing 265 customers to lose power.

Update 8:52 a.m.

Power is back on to businesses and the traffic signal at Orange and Williamson in Roanoke. Outage lasted about an hour.

A power outage has disabled traffic lights at a major Roanoke intersection.  The lights at Williamson Road and Orange Avenue are not working.

Appalachian Power's website listed 265 affected customers in Roanoke, as of 8:25 a.m.  Roanoke's Social Services Office at Civic Mall on Williamson Road closed for the day because of the outage.
