Thomas Brewster has been named superintendent of Pulaski County Public Schools.
The announcement was made Wednesday morning during a school board meeting. Brewster has been employed by the Pulaski County Public Schools since 2006.
He had served as deputy superintendent since 2010. From 2008 to 2010, Brewster was the assistant superintendent of administration and also spent time as the interim superintendent. Brewster was hired by the school system in 2006 as the coordinator of student services.
Brewster began his career as a teacher in 1991. He went on to serve as principal in the Tazewell County Public Schools. Brewster worked as the director of assessment and assistant professor of education at Concord University from 2001 to 2006.
Former superintendent Robert Becker stepped down last month. He and the school board reached an agreement that will pay him for one of the two years he had left on his four year contract.
The School Board Chairman would not comment on why Becker stepped down.
