It takes months to prepare and dozens of volunteers to decorate just one tree in Danville.
This week church members at Ascension Lutheran Church are hanging white and gold ornaments on their Chrismons tree.
A Chrismons tree is different from a traditional Christmas tree.
All the ornaments on the tree are religious symbols and come from around the world and have been used for decades.
The tradition started 56 years ago at the church and has spread to churches of different denominations in other states and countries.
"We have a pastor who like to tell the story, he got a call from the Pentagon one year. And they wanted to send the instructions out to the chapels on the military bases cause they felt like it was something calming," said church member and volunteer Heidi Kefauver.
The tree is donated every year and brought to the church from a long time member.
The church welcomes visitors to look at the tree beginning this coming Sunday.
