Rescue Mission of Roanoke cooks up hundreds of meals

Volunteers cooked and served hundreds of meals Thursday at the Rescue Mission of Roanoke

Workers began prepping Sunday.  The feast included 50 cases of cranberry sauce and nearly 100 turkeys.  Despite the volume, the Rescue Mission is able to keep the cost low.
"Our average cost right now is about 20 cents per plate because the food is donated and the work is donated," Director of Programs Anders Sylvester-Johnson told News7.

The Rescue Mission serves about a thousand meals on just an average day.  Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are usually the busiest days of the year.
