Maintenance on three of the four boilers at Melrose Towers in Roanoke will shut heat off to much of the building until Wednesday.
The building's maintenance staff notified residents late last week they would be without heat.
Some say the staff should have notified them earlier or completed the project sooner.
"I wish they would have fixed them this summer, they should have known about it. They should have known about it anyway. But last winter if they were not working right they should have known they were not working when they turned them off for the summer," said Cathy Wydner, a resident in the building.
The building's maintenance staff says they planned to fix the problems sooner, but they had a delay from the manufacturer of the boiler.
