It's unmistakable if you drive by it on Interstate 581 in Roanoke. The Roanoke Catholic School gym is in the midst of a makeover.
Crews are replacing the windows of the unconventionally-shaped building. The principal of Roanoke Catholic knows the building is highly visible and unique, and it was time for an upgrade.
"There are a couple of iconic buildings up on this hill. Of course St. Andrews primarily as our church, but that gym is something you see everyday from 581 as you come down," said school principal Patrick Patterson, "One of the great things about that building is that it's stood the test of time. It's been around for over 50 years, it's structurally sound, and it's time for us to put some additional money into it.
The school is pouring nearly a half-million dollars into fixing up the windows, roof and basketball court.
