Sundays are often a day of prayer and a time to give thanks..
And, that's what the congregation of Valley Community Church in Roanoke County did, but this time they gave thanks for their four-legged friends.
For the last 15-years, the church designates one day a year to bless the animals.
People bring their pets to the service and for those pets that can't travel - a picture will do.
"I just like to take a day and celebrate their presence in my life because they are a blessing to me," explains parishioner & pet lover Tammy Mulkey.
Reverend Dr. Maurita Wiggins agrees and says our pets can bring us daily reminders, "That little thing greets you when you come in and is always there for you, and has a sense when you need to have them around, they love to snuggle up and be with you cause they love you so much. And, that in itself is an example we can follow, to love."
Sunday's service featured two bunnies, a couple of cats and a bunch of dogs.
The most unusual pet that's ever come to Valley Community's service?
The reverend says a chicken!
