In Southwest and Central Virginia, many people paused Tuesday to mark the 11th anniversary of 9/11.
In Roanoke County on Wednesday morning emergency responders gathered and dedicated a new flagpole at the county's firearms and driving training facility.
"This is a day for us to remember those who were lost, not just the public safety employees but also all the Americans. Along with what's happened since then," Stephen Simon of Roanoke County Fire and Rescue said.
The flag, plaque and flagpole were donated by the Woodemen of the World fraternal organization.
