The Roanoke County Board of Supervisors approved new ordinances for moped riders, and the county is trying to make sure everyone knows about them.
If you are riding on a moped on a public street or highway in Roanoke County, you must wear a face shield, safety glasses, or goggles, and have the moped equipped with safety glass or a windshield. Also, everyone driving a moped, as well as passengers, must wear a helmet. The new ordinances were passed in December.
Roanoke County Police have recently seen an increase in moped riders.
They are now trying to inform the public of the new ordinance.
Once enforcement begins moped riders in violation of the ordinance will be subject to a maximum fine of $50.
