Roanoke drivers utilize gas price specials

Isaac has had a major impact on oil production in the Gulf of Mexico causing gas prices to soar as we head into the Labor Day weekend. The national average price of regular gasoline is $3.83 a gallon.

In the Roanoke area, the average price is 16 cents below that. Customers say they're trying to save any way they can-- including taking advantage of discounts given in exchange for buying a certain amount of groceries.

We spoke with Jacoby Fields who says he’s over budget in terms of what he plans to spend monthly on gas. He buys gas from Kroger because he says by doing so, he pays less per gallon. “Well, I feel if you're going to shop for groceries, you might as well save any way you can,” he said.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Analysts expect prices to fall after demand decreases after Labor Day. Additionally, prices will decrease as gas stations begin to switch to the cheaper winter blended gasoline.
