From Roanoke Fire-EMS:

On February 9, 2011, Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a structure fire at 3304 Thurman Ave.  The call was received in the E-911 Center at approximately 8:15 am and was ruled under control at 8:32 am.  Four engines, 1 ladder truck, 2 medic units, the EMS Captain, a Battalion Chief, the Service Truck, the Fire Prevention Specialist and two Administrative Chiefs responded to the scene.

When crews arrived they found a one story house with heavy smoke showing.  Crews gained entrance and began to extinguish the fire.

There was no one home when the fire started.  Firefighters rescued a cat from the house and returned it to its owner.  There were no injuries to civilians or Fire-EMS personnel.

There was no one home when the fire started.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  Damage estimates are not available at this time.  One adult and two children have been displaced from the house.

Roanoke fire officials say no one was at home when the fire started at a home on Thurman Avenue.  Both Roanoke City and County firefighters responded.  No firefighters were hurt extinguishing the blaze.

Firefighters say the interior of the house was heavily damaged.

Roanoke firefighters are still on the scene of a house fire on Thurman Avenue.  Crews were called to the location off Hershberger Road before 8:30 Wednesday morning.

Smoke from the fire was visible from many parts of the city.
