The Roanoke Police Department has teamed up with Local Colors to host a Community Diversity Summit. The event celebrates the various cultures in the Roanoke Valley.

The event will be held Tuesday night at the Roanoke Police Training Academy.

98 nationalities are represented in the Roanoke Valley. Each immigrant has a different experience and impression of what law enforcement represents in their home country.

The Cultural Diversity Summit is an opporunity for Roanoke Police to meet face-to-face and make a connection with those who are new to this country.

N. D. Comas from Roanoke City Police says, "A lot of it is just communication.  A lot of people do not realize police officers are an asset.  It's not just police officers are out there patroling, but they're a part of the community.  A lot of people are relucant to call 911 when they see something and obviously language is always a barrier, but there's ways to work around that. For the most part, we want to put an inviting persona out to the public."

The summit is Tuesday night at 6 o'clock. The Roanoke Police Training Academy is located just off of Peters Creek Road.
