UPDATE: Man arrested in connection to Roanoke bank robbery

A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a bank robbery Tuesday morning in Roanoke.

Michael Byers has been charged with robbery.

Investigators say Byers walked into the Freedom First Credit Union on Williamson Road around 9 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money.

Byers took the money and left the bank, police say.

Officers learned that the suspect may have been in the 4800 block of Valley View Boulevard. They found a man matching the suspect’s description, but he was wearing different clothing. Police believe that Byers changed his clothes after the robbery.

No weapon was displayed during the robbery.

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a bank robbery that happened Tuesday morning.

Investigators say the Freedom First Credit Union on Williamson Road was robbed a few minutes after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

A suspect was detained in the 4800 block of Valley View Boulevard. He has not been charged.
