The Hot Springs community is eager to find out whose body was found on Sunday.
We're still waiting to hear if the remains are Beacher Hackney's.
He's the man accused of shooting and killing his boss and a co-worker inside the Homestead Resort three and a half years ago.
The sheriff's office had a team at the site Tuesday including a medical examiner.
The community is certainly talking about the discovery and the rumor mill is churning.
And while the people in Hot Springs hope it's Beacher Hackney, the town is in a state of flux, because no one really knows.
Downtown Hot Springs lies in the shadow of the Homestead Resort, but the dark shadows of a double murder three years ago in this quaint town still haven't been lifted.
“It never leaves your mind. Because you don't know where he's at and if he's coming back,” resident Kathryn George said.
The mere idea that the body discovered Sunday in woods near the lower Cascades Golf Course could be Hackney weaves a common thread down Main Street here: closure.
“I think it would bring closure to a lot of the people,” resident Tommy Ricketts said. “Not only to the people, but to the people who work at the Homestead and their families.”
Resident Ellen Hodge said: “I’m sure that the people here will certainly be glad about it and there will be closure.”
And while optimism abounds, the vibe from people we spoke with is that it's cautious.
“It happened quick. Nobody knew what happened to him forever now their coming up with this body and everybody is saying its Hackney but nobody knows just yet,” resident Chase Nicely.
Now a community that has waited almost three and a half years to find Beacher Hackney, could just be days away from a big sigh of relief.
The sheriff's department was on site where the body was found Tuesday looking for additional evidence they may have missed Monday.
Considering the Homestead murders were around three years ago, it's making the rumor mill around town swirl even more.
