A six-year-old boy in Campbell County is still getting help in his brave battle against cancer.
Nathan Norman continues to fight tumors in his brain and spine. We met him last fall, after he made a simple request for Christmas.
He wanted cards from police, firefighters, and emergency workers. They not only sent cards, thousands from all over the world showed up at his house in Rustburg.
Today, those visits continue. The US Forest Service brought Smokey Bear to see Nathan and his three siblings Monday. They were given a tour of firefighting vehicles and showered with gifts, hats, patches and t-shirts.
"To have gone through everything that he has gone through and still have so much compassion toward others, and still be willing to share, it's inspirational and we all could learn a lot from Nathan," said Michael Williams, a public affairs specialist for the US Forest Service.
Nathan continues to take chemotherapy treatments at Duke Children's Hospital in North Carolina. His family provides regular updates on his progress, through an online journal that you can read by clicking here.
