Friday's rain failed to dampen the mood or the mission of Earth Day at Hollins University.
The school had a whole days worth of activities planned but most of them had to be moved indoors because of the weather.
Among the activities--Hollins held an informational fair where students could get information about ways to save energy.
The school also had a lunch menu completely locally-grown foods. Everything from the chicken to the salad bar was either grown or raised in Virginia.
Hollins also unveiled new solar panels. They will convert the sun's energy into electricity. The project became a reality thanks to a $30,000 grant by The Dominion Foundation.
Hollins student say being green is something they strive for. Macy Carmen, a Hollins student, told News 7 "I think we all take it very seriously. A lot of us carry our own water bottles and there's reminders all over campus just that there are so many little things that make no impact on our life that can help reduce our impact on the environment."
This week, The Princeton Review labeled Hollins one of the most Green Colleges in the United States.
