ROANOKE, Va.—
Saturday night marked the start of the 2013 season for the Star City Roller Girls.
They faced off against the Beckley Area Derby Dames.
Roller Derby is an all-female sport.
The event drew a large crowd, with many attending a derby for the first time.
"I think they'll be lots of hissing and booing, laughter and yelling. Just great community fun and it's supporting a good cause," said Sharon Thacker.
A potion of the ticket sales went to the Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center.
