Read Across America Day is coming up on Friday, March 1, in honor of classic children's author Dr. Seuss' birthday.
It's an event designed to bring awareness of the importance of reading to children, and getting them excited about books.
But many adults didn't have the benefit of learning to read as children, and still need help with literacy. That's where Blue Ridge Literacy comes in.
The organization provides English tutoring for adults through two programs: Basic Literacy for native English speakers and English for Speakers of Other Languages tutoring. Blue Ridge Literacy also offers GED preparation tutoring.
A major fundraiser for Blue Ridge Literacy is coming up on Thursday, March 14. It's the 8th annual Blue Ridge Literacy Scrabble Tournament Doors open at 5:00 p.m. for food, but actual play begins at 6:00 p.m..
