We are fast approaching the 67th anniversary of D-Day, and the tenth anniversary of the dedication of the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford.  Thousands of visitors tour the landmark every year, and it took years of hard work to bring it to fruition.

Architect and military history buff Byron Dickson played a huge role in the process.
He's written a book titled, "The National D-Day Memorial: Evolution of an Idea."  There are many photographs detailing every stage of the construction, as well as an overview of the Normandy invasion itself.

Dickson says he first got the idea for a D-Day memorial after reading a newspaper article about D-Day veteran and Roanoke native Bob Slaughter.
