The Mayor of Roanoke issued a challenge Thursday in his State of The City Address.

The speech urged members of city council to get moving in the next year and a half on building a downtown amphitheater.

He's also calling on council to deal with the Countryside neighborhood dilemma.

Countryside golf course has gone without maintenance for months, leaving the Countryside neighborhood in limbo.

"It is not right for the people of the Countryside Neighborhood to wait in limbo for another decade. Countryside should not be another Victory Stadium debacle that lingers on and lingers on," said Bowers.

The Mayor thinks the best thing would be to revert Countryside to a municipal golf course, tennis courts and swim center.
