On Saturday, the Roanoke Technical Education Center played host to a tournament.

Not with track races, but robots, letting high school students get their competitive juices flowing.

The winners Saturday go on to even higher levels of competition. Teams score by using their robots to put rings over these small goal posts, with each robot a little different.

Each one is built from scratch -- the students even design their own computer programs.
