Rocky Mount is making plans to fill the vacancies created by the death of Posey Dillon, the town's fire chief and vice-mayor.

A spokesman for the town says Charlie Robertson has been appointed fire chief and fire marshal.  Roberston  was the town's assistant fire chief and assistant fire marshal.  He will serve as chief until the next fire department election.

Town council will appoint someone to fill the remainder of Posey Dillon's seat on council.  That person will serve until the term expires in 2012.  Council will tap another councilmember to serve as vice-mayor.

Dillon and another firefighter, William Daniel Altice, were killed Monday afternoon when their fire truck was involved in a crash and rolled over.  A town spokesman says funeral arrangements have not been made yet.

Governor Bob McDonnell today ordered the flag of the Commonwealth to be flown at half-staff at all state buildings in honor of Altice and Dillon.  Flags are to be lowered to half-staff for the remainder of today and all day Wednesday.

At the Rocky Mount town hall, workers placed a wreath on the front door.  There is also a public memorial inside to the entrance of council chambers.  Out near the crash site, there are several bouquets of flowers placed on the guard rail.
