The Virginia Museum of Transportation celebrates rail heritage and history at Train Lovers Weekend

The Virginia Museum of Transportation will celebrate Virginia’s love of all-things-railroad during Train Lovers’ Weekend.

The events begin Saturday, February 9th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, February 10th, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Parking in the Brandon lot in front of the Museum will be free throughout the weekend.

The Museum will offer train rides, model train displays, crafts, scavenger hunts and fun activities for the entire family.

Blue Ridge PBS will show “Dinosaur Train,” the hit kids PBS program, in the N&W Safety Car Theatre – a unique 48-seat theatre on the rails.

The Museum will offer reduced admission: $5 per person. As always, Museum members and infants two and under admitted free.

This year, Train Lovers’ Weekend will celebrate Roanoke’s rich rail heritage and the people who work tirelessly to keep the rail history alive.

Docents will be available to answer questions and tell rail fans – young and old alike – stories of the unique and fascinating railroads that crisscross Virginia.

Back by popular demand, Train Lovers can take a ride on a vintage caboose!

To offset the high cost of fuel, the train rides are $2 per person per ride, including Museum Members. Infants two and under ride the train for free!

The Museum will sponsor a Craft Station where children can make Valentines for their favorite people.

The Roanoke Valley Model Engineers will display their ON3, HO, and N-scale layouts on Saturday.
