The Galax boys are back in the state title game thanks to a 64 to 54 win over Charles City Thursday afternoon.  Devonte McKinney scored 22 points while Austin Pack chipped in with 15 of his own in the win.

The Glenvar ladies put up a fight against George Mason but eventually fell 64 to 48.  Jessi Strom led the way with 17 Highlander points.

The Covington girls basketball team punched its ticket to the state finals with a 50-47 win over Altavista in overtime on Thursday afternoon.

The Cougars' Autumn Phillips had 16 points, and sophomore Sa'Mone Moore passed the 1,000-point career mark.

Covington will play East Rockingham at 2 p.m. Friday for the A Division 1 semifinals.

The Galax girls basketball team fell to East Rockingham on Thursday, 59-40, in the A Division 1 semifinals of the Virginia High School League playoffs.

Freshman Sidney Lindsey led Galax with 12 points and 9 rebounds.

East Rockingham's Katie Dofflemyer had a game-high 17 points.

Galax trailed 27-18 at halftime.

East Rockingham moves on to play the Covington-Altavista at 2 p.m. Friday for the state title.

Altavista led Covington, 16-15, at halftime.

Semifinal action from the Virginia High School League basketball playoffs will be full of local teams taking the floor in Richmond on Thursday.

Four local teams are looking to extend their seasons.

The Galax girls will be the first ones to take the floor Thursday when they tip off against East Rockingham at 11 a.m.

In a regional matchup, the Covington girls take on Altavista at 3 p.m.
