R.E. Lee Memorial Church in Lexington is raising money for families in South Sudan with a Polar Bear Plunge.
Normally sweaters and hot chocolate don't go with flip flops and beach towels.
But that was what News7 saw in one backyard pool on Sunday afternoon.
Dozens of people ditched their scarves and dived into 40 degree water all to raise money for hungry families in South Sudan.
Swimmers said the worst part about the plunge was getting out of the water.
But thawing out came easy as warm pizza, hot chocolate and a fire were waiting.
Though many couldn't feel their toes or fingers, they said it was all worth it.
The church raised more than four-thousand dollars.
Next weekend the church will pack more than twenty-five thousand pouches for South Sudan; things like rice, proteins and vitamins.
