'Tis the season to reach a little bit deeper into your pockets and fork over a bigger tip. Etiquette experts say larger than usual tips are expected, and appreciated during the holidays. One person you should tip is your hairstylist or barber. Tip what you can, but an amount equal to the price of your service is appropriate. We spoke with the folks at Cost Cutters On Williamson Road in Roanoke who say the tips won't be taken for granted.
“15% is the norm. But at Christmas, our regulars can give us quite a bit more. How much more? 10, 20, 40 I got a $40 tip the other day,” said Terrie Boyer, who works as a hair stylist at Cost Cutters.
Another place you may want to tip big is at the dry cleaners. After all, you'll want your next batch of shirts to be starched perfectly, right? Other people who may expect a tip include:
USPS, U-P-S, Fedex delivery people.
They can't accept cash so a small gift may be nice
Both dog walkers and nurses/caregivers should receive a week's pay.
Teachers, a small gift or gift card
And yes, even your boss can expect a small present.
