Roanoke Fire-EMS responded to a structure fire in the 1100 block of 22nd St., NW. The call was received in the E-911 Center at approximately 1:43 a.m.
Due to heavy fire conditions the fire was not ruled under control until about an hour later at 2:46 a.m. 27 personnel in all responded to the scene.
When crews arrived they found a two story house with heavy flames and smoke showing. Two residents had jumped from the second floor to escape the flames.
A total of 8 people were in the house when the fire started. One of the occupants that jumped was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during their escape.
Eight occupants have been displaced, but they stated they didn't need assistance from the American Red Cross. Two cars in the front yard were also damaged. The origin and cause of the fire are both under investigation.
Damage estimates at this time are approximately $80,000.
