Underclassmen find their new homes at Roanoke College

The City of Salem's population grew by a few hundred Saturday. It's move-in day for underclassmen at Roanoke College.

Around 600 freshmen and transfer students spent the day moving into their dorm rooms on that campus in Salem. Dozens of them will be the first students to live in Roanoke College's new dorm.

Whether they're in apartment style, communal, or single rooms, their living space went from empty to busting at the seams in no time.

It's a bitter-sweet time for parents. They're happy to see their children take a big step but sad to see them go. The students we talked to just sounded excited.

"I'm a little bit anxious.  I'm ready to just get settled in.  I think once that happens the nerves will go away.  I'll be ready to hang out with other kids," said John Ciauci, a Roanoke College Freshman.

Upperclassmen move into their dorm rooms Monday. The first full day of classes is Wednesday.
