A Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors member says your tax money is disappearing with unexplained trips.
Jerry Hagerman says staff members have spent thousands of dollars on trips to other states without permission or following up on their trips.
This week he proposed a new policy requiring employees to get each trip approved by the board with a detailed reason for traveling.
Then each employee may give a report explaining the trip and whether it was successful.
"It's county money. That means it's our money, it's our citizen's money. And if they're going to make these trips, we needed to know what their intent was and what their mission was," Hagerman said.
Hagerman believes this will cut back on wasteful spending in the county.
The new travel policy starts this year.
