Family signs contract that would turn farm into upscale student apartments in Blacksburg

It looks like another large apartment complex is coming to the New River Valley.

A family in Blacksburg says it has signed a contract to sell close to 40 acres for a new apartment complex that would be called "The Retreat."

The site is just off of Prices Fork Road and sits north of the Foxridge apartments.

The land has been a working farm since the late 1930's. The family says its signed a contract with a developer out of Georgia, to build "an upscale student housing community."


Officials with the town say they have no idea on a construction start date because no one involved in the deal has made any requests for any permits.
