(AP) -- Virginia's Uranium Working Group has held its final public meeting before submitting its report on uranium mining to Gov. Bob McDonnell and the General Assembly.

The multi-agency working group appeared before 200 people in Richmond on Tuesday night and said it will submit its report on schedule -- Dec. 1.

The working group will not issue a recommendation on whether Virginia should end its 30-year ban on uranium mining. Instead, it will examine an array of issues related to uranium mining, from worker safety to a regulatory framework that would oversee this new mining industry.

Virginia Uranium Inc. has proposed mining a 119-million-pound deposit of the radioactive ore in Southside Virginia.

The proposal has been met by opposition by those who believe it can't be done safely.
