A Newport News man charged with killing three people at a home in central Virginia got out of prison a couple months before the slayings.
Virginia Department of Corrections spokesman Larry Traylor told The Daily Progress that 23-year-old Rashad Matthew Riddick was released from Red Onion State Prison on Nov. 8.
Newport News Circuit Court records show Riddick was convicted in 2005 of attempted carjacking, weapons charges and assault and battery of a police officer. He was sentenced to a total six years.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office says Riddick was charged Sunday with three counts of capital murder. He was being held without bond at the Newport News City Jail. Jail records didn't indicate whether he has a lawyer.
The victims' bodies were found Saturday.
