Virginia school leaders are backing away from a plan that would set different achievement goals for minority and low-income students on standardized math tests.
Instead, their goal by 20-16 is an average score of 73 percent on those tests for all students.
The original plan was criticized for having lower standards for minorities and students who are disabled.
The goal for white students would have been a 78.
For black students it would have been 57.
It would appear that the educational standards are intended to keep the masses stupid. It's working too. Why not set the mark higher for everyone and allow students to test when they are ready. There are plenty of middle school students who could pass these tests in sixth rather than eighth grade. Likewise, high school students should be allowed to test out of courses (CLEP as it was called in college) and move on with classes that would set them on an early college or career track. Instead, we force them all through the maze.
Shameful.
Since the Fed got it's tentacles into education, we've seen the decline. The same is likely to occur with healthcare.
