An upcoming road project could help spur even more growth in Lynchburg.
The Virginia Department of Transportation is highlighting the proposed Odd Fellows Road interchange as a highway improvement that could draw hundreds of thousands of dollars to the state.
The project will extend Odd Fellows Road to Route 460, and open up a large area of undeveloped land.
A study, conducted by the Virginia Department of Transportation's Center for Transportation Innovation and Research, says the Odd Fellows interchange will generate 53 jobs during construction, and more than a million dollars in state tax revenues.
"It's a very big deal here," said Christine Kennedy, Executive Vice President of the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce. "The long term benefits include direct access to our industrial parks for some of our freight traffic, and reduction of accidents for a very busy stretch of road."
The Odd Fellows project is expected to take traffic off Candlers Mountain Road and Campbell Avenue.
Construction won't begin for another two years.
