One thing you may not be paying more for this year is Thanksgiving dinner.
The Virginia Farm Bureau reports the cost of this year's holiday meal is going to be about 80 cents cheaper than 2011. A traditional and basic dinner of a 16 lb. turkey, dressing, 3 lbs. of sweet potatoes, rolls, peas, cranberries, a relish tray of carrots and celery, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream will run an average of $47.23 for 10 adults.
"The thing to remember is this isn't saying also two pounds of butter and three gallons of milk. It's the staples," says Sherri McKinney of the Virginia Farm Bureau.
Prices can vary depending on where you live in the state. Shoppers in Chesapeake can expect to pay the highest prices for Thanksgiving dinner at $55.86. In this area, the lowest price award goes to Tazewell County at $49.20.
