Distemper is a highly contageous airborne virus. It's symptoms include high fever, cough and vomiting.
There have been several confirmed cases of canine distemper in Pulaski and surrounding counties recently.
Police and animal officials are encouraging owners to get their pets vaccinated to protect against the virus.
"Distemper is a highly, highly contagious disease that is spread easily," said Candice Simmons, the Pulaski County Humane Society Director. "So you definitely need to get your dog vaccinated, that's the only way to prevent distemper."
The Pulaski County Animal Shelter is holding Rocky's Clinic on March 10 and 24th from noon to 4pm. Distemper and rabies vaccinations will cost $5, kennel cough vaccines will cost $10. To make an appointment for the clinic call: 540-674-0089. Walk-ins are accepted.
