More than a hundred were packed into Litton-Reaves Saturday morning. Most brought nothing with them other than a desire to help their community-- all going to spruce up local day care centers.
Some twenty members of the Virginia Tech men's lacrosse team came to the Rainbow Riders Child Care Center to do some carpentry and community service.
"Blacksburg's given so much to us and we just want to give back," says senior Brent Willess.
After measuring the wood, and cutting it to the right size, eventually the deck will become a stage for the children here.
"We have about ten guys that really came together and decided last fall that they wanted to do something different with this year's team instead of being a lacrosse team that's only playing on the field and practicing," he says.
Rainbow Riders needed a large group to complete the work; other centers needed painting or cleaning-- this one needed power tools.
"We got the plans for it and we thought it was something we could tackle," says junior Brett Burnette.
The team also volunteers with the Relay for Life and Special Olympics-- all before their season starts next month.
